Kelly Farmer
Kelly Farmer is the University Tax Director and has served in that position since 2001. Prior to moving to Minnesota he was the Sr. Tax Manager at Arizona State University (Tempe, Arizona) from 1995 to 2001.Kelly is a past member of the NACUBO Tax Council and served in that capacity for eleven years. He served as chair of the Tax Council for 2004 – 2005. Kelly has participated in NACUBO seminars as an instructor regarding tax issues over the span of his involvement in the Tax Council. He has also represented NACUBO in hearings with the Internal Revenue Service.
Kelly was previously employed by the former “big eight” firm of Arthur Young & Co. Prior to starting his career in higher education he was a partner in a local CPA firm in Phoenix, Arizona. Kelly has a BS from Brigham Young University School of Accountancy. He is a Certified Public Accountant and is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Heather Broneak
Heather joined the University Tax Management Office in December, 2006, as a Tax Analyst, and now serves as Assistant Tax Director. She came from the tax side of public accounting, including experience specializing in the sales/use tax area of the State and Local Tax practices at three firms. Prior to entering public accounting, Heather spent 12 years at the Minnesota Department of Revenue. She worked as an attorney in the Appeals and Legal Services Division as well as in other management positions at the Department. Heather also worked as an attorney at a qualified retirement plan administration company.Heather is active in the Tax Law Section of the Minnesota State Bar Association. She is the Immediate Past Chair of the Tax Law Section and previously held the positions of Treasurer and Editor of the Tax Law Section Newsletter. Heather has a JD from William Mitchell College of Law and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a BS from the College of Education.
Heather Fairbanks
Heather Fairbanks is the newest addition to the University Tax Management Office, serving in the role of Executive Administrative Specialist. She is the first to hold this new position, created in February 2007. Prior to this Heather worked with the University of Minnesota Department of Family Medicine as an Executive Administrative Specialist for just under two years. Heather completed a B.A. in English at the University of Minnesota and coaches speech and debate at Blaine High School.
